Illness
Protecting your child's health and preventing the spread of illness is of the utmost importance to us. Please keep your child at home if you notice any of the following things:
Elevated Temperature (fever) - Your child should be fever free for a full 24 hours before returning to school.
Vomiting and/or Diarrhea - Your child should be symptom free for a full 24 hours before returning to school.
Cold or symptoms of Upper Respiratory Infection - Such as persistent cough, nasal discharge, sore throat and congestion.
Suspicious skin rashes or infections - Measles, 5th disease, impetigo, etc.
Pink eye - An inflammation of the lining of the eye and lids in which the eyelids become red and swollen and there may be a watery or thick yellow discharge. Antibiotic ointment or drops are necessary from your physician. Exclusion from school is required until the child has received a note from a doctor that they may return to school and are no longer contagious.
Chicken Pox - First symptoms appear 2-3 weeks after exposure to the disease; slight fever, headache, loss of appetite and a rash that appears as small reddish spots over nearly all the body. These spots become filled with fluid and after a few days dry up, turn dark and form scabs. Exclusion from school is at least 7 days from the first eruption. All eruptions must have scabbed before the student may return to school.
Lice - Any student who has lice will need to be brought to the office before returning to school, following treatment, to be rechecked by school personnel . Student's must be totally nit free to return to school.

Absences/Tardies
If your child is not feeling well in the morning, has been sick during the night, or is running a temperature, please do not send them to school. If a sick child is sent to school, they will have a harder time paying attention and learning. Depending on the illness, your child could contaminate the rest of the class.
To report an absence or tardy, please call our attendance line at 586-723-6099. Please give the reason for the absence/tardy as well. If you have a doctor's note you may send it in with your child when they return.
Students arriving after 8:55 am are considered tardy and need to come through the office. Parent's are not allowed to come in the building with tardy students or walk their child to the classroom. If you need to have your student dismissed before 3:39 pm, you must come to the front door and press the button. The office staff will contact the classroom to get your student for the dismissal after the office has checked your ID, which will be verified that you, or whoever you have sent to pick up your student, is on the student's emergency card.
Homework Request
If your child is absent, you may request homework after the 2nd day of being absent. Please don't leave homework requests on the absence line. You should call or email the teacher to let them know you would like homework for your student. All homework will be left in the office for pick-up at the end of the school day unless other arrangements are made with the teacher.
